The Wishing Spell is an obscure magical enchantment in the Land of Stories. Its use relies on the uniting of eight different and difficult-to-obtain items critical to the Land's history. When the Wishing Spell is used it grants the user one wish, no matter how extravagant or far-fetched it may be. But, there is one problem. Alex and Conner's father used the spell already, so only one other person can use it.
The Wishing Spell was first chronicled by an unknown man, later revealed to be Alex and Conner's father, in a journal given to the twins by their father. He successfully used the Wishing Spell to travel to Earth and reunite himself with the twins' mother, whom he had met as a result of being allowed to go between worlds by the Fairy Godmother. Alex and Conner use the journal left behind by their father as a guide to locate the items in their attempt to return home when they accidently got trapped in the fairy tale world by the book their grandmother gave them whom later became revealed as the Fairy Godmother of Cinderella.
